The Wire

-Drama The Wire is a sprawling urban police drama, set in the mean streets of a drug-riddled Baltimore where the cycle of misery and poverty is hopeless and detectives do their best to stay ahead and grapple with the situation they're given. The Wire has the benefit of being on HBO and can, as a result, be as graphic in nature as it wants to be.

The show premiered on June 2, 2006 and has earned positive reviews from various critics, along with numerous awards.  The drama is created by David Simon and is set and produced in Baltimore, Maryland.  The plot of the pilot season focused on the ongoing struggles between police units and drug-dealing gangs on the west side of the city, told from both points of view.  Season 2 examined the plight of the blue-collar urban working class, along with the continuing examination of the drug problem and its effect on the urban poor.  The third season focused back on the street and the Barksdale organization but expanded the scope to include the political scene, while the fourth season branched out its scope to include the examination of the school system.  The fifth and final season, on the other hand, focused on the media.

The Wire concludes with the episode called “-30-“ which finds Carcetti reacting to a damaging report from Pearlman and Daniels.  Haynes, on the other hand, finds little support from the bosses for his concerns about a reporter's work as McNulty attempts to put an end to the homeless case.

Meanwhile, Dukie tried to get in touch with an old mentor and a wake is staged for another fallen officer.

The Wire
stars Aidan Gillen as Thomas "Tommy" Carcetti, Deirdre Lovejoy as Rhonda Pearlman, Lance Reddick as Cedric Daniels, Clark Johnson as Augustus "Gus" Haynes, Dominic West as James "Jimmy" McNulty, and Jamie Hector as Marlo Stanfield, just to name a few.

The Wire
series finale airs on Sunday at 9pm on HBO.
