ABC's The Gates may be nothing like True Blood, but much have been said about the new vampire series that marries Desperate Housewives with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. On the surface, the series takes viewers to the world of suburban bliss, where neighbors are friendly and lawns are perfectly manicured. Beneath the picturesque neighborhood, however, is an intriguingly dark scenario that's frightening even when the sun is up.
In the pilot episode of The Gates
, we get a glimpse of this exclusive community first through the story of Claire (Rhona Mitra), a suburban mom who sets her sights on a single contractor that nearly hit her young daughter with his car. The show wastes no time in introducing supernatural elements because Claire quickly preys on her victim by sucking and draining his blood--which now poses a big problem since there's a new Chief of Police in town.
Enter Nick Monohan (Frank Grillo), the homicide detective turned Chief of Police who just moved from Chicago into his new home in The Gates with his family. In his first day on the job, he investigates the disappearance of the contractor while Claire and her husband Dylan (Luke Mably) struggle to hide their involvement in Nick's case.
