Tina Fey’s getting some big names for her show, and the latest to join the comic bandwagon is A-list celebrity Matt Damon.  So far it’s been quite a rumor that’s going around, but TV Fanatic and Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello are positive he’s next to appear on 30 Rock.

This follows the news of Elizabeth Banks starring as Jack’s (Alec Baldwin) new romantic interest.  While she’s already signed on for four episodes, maybe Matt Damon is even willing to do more.

During the premiere of the actor’s movie Invictus, Ausiello asked whether or not he’d consider appearing on the hit NBC series.  “I would do [30 Rock] in a heartbeat if they asked me to come on,” Damon exclaimed.

He seemed very enthusiastic about being in Tina Fey’s cast, and we’re pretty sure he’s not just flattering her to get a part.  Not that that won’t help.

“I have not been approached about doing it.  She should call my people — or even better me.  Or I could call her.  Let’s make this happen,” Matt Damon went on.  “Tina is a brilliant comedy writer.  My wife and I download that show in bulk.  That’s actually one of the downsides to working so much this year; I have fallen behind on this season.  But we love that show, so if she has a part for me, I’m game.”

Well, Tina Fey better get her pen ready.  There are a thousand parts you can write for Matt Damon, but we wouldn’t mind seeing him just be himself.

Still, 30 Rock has had so many great guest stars over the years; surely they can find a way to squeeze Matt Damon into the story.  Will Liz pull an act like Jack’s and find herself a new lover too?

Whatever the case, the fans will be glad to welcome the celebrity into the show.  We know the network will be grateful for the audiences they can draw in with Matt Damon around.
