For months, millions have been awaiting the release of Stephenie Meyer’s romance Twilight onto DVD. The official DVD release date was set at March 21, 2009. In fact, I already have my copy reserved on Amazon. Twilight fans won’t have to wait that long though.

Summit Entertainment just announced a release party called “Twilight at Midnight” which will go from 10pm to 12 midnight on the evening of March 20, 2009. Summit knows Twilight has a lot of high school followers that wouldn’t be able to do a midnight party on Monday the 23rd due to the school week, so they’ve moved up the promotional party by three days! That way, it can be a Twilight party weekend! You see, normally new DVDs get released every Tuesday but Twilight likes to do things differently. So even though the March 21st release date isn’t new, the reasoning behind it is.

“We wanted to say thank you to all of those who came out in droves last year and helped make Stephenie Meyer’s characters and story a truly successful movie,” said President of Home Entertainment, Steve Nickerson. I know that millions of Twilight fans will be very appreciative that they’ll be getting their hands on a copy of Twilight earlier than expected.

So how do you find the nearest “Twilight at Midnight” party near you? The official Twilight website- www.twilightthemovie.com – will feature a unique store locator from which fans can find out which retailers will be holding midnight parties. In addition, the site will have updated announcements of special surprises related to actors in the film. Expect a special edition DVD or two for the evening as well.

Twilight stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Peter Facinelli, and Taylor Lautner.

The only question is: Now what do I do with my preordered Amazon copy? Try to return it and join the festivities at my local store? This is a dilemma indeed.
