UPDATE: Hilarie Burton has posted a video message to fans that essentially confirms her leaving the show.  Click here to read more>>

The CW has officially picked up One Tree Hill for season 7, but the big mystery surrounds the show’s two stars, Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton. There has been no official word on whether the two will renew their contracts and show up for season 7 in any capacity.

Now comes word from the fan site OneTreeHillFans.com that Murray and Burton have not renewed their contracts, nor will they. According to the site’s anonymous sources, both stars have decided to leave the series after this season.

Fans should take this with a grain of salt, as there is no official word on whether or not Murray or Burton will or won’t stick around. However, if OneTreeHillFans.com’s sources are correct, it would be a dramatic change for the long-running CW drama.

From the start, the show has been about the love story of Lucas Scott and Peyton Sawyer. This season the two finally got back together, are planning a wedding, and recently learned Peyton is pregnant. If the stars do decide to leave, hopefully it will come after fans get closure on this love story with a wedding and a birth.

If both stars leave, what will become of One Tree Hill. With another season already lined up, will Nathan and Haley take center stage? Perhaps the show will turn some of its recurring characters like Chase, Mia and Sam into more permanent fixtures.

BuddyTV will keep a careful eye over the next few days on news to see whether these rumors are true and what One Tree Hill season 7 will look like.

What do you think? Would you still watch One Tree Hill without Lucas and Peyton? If so, what would you like to see in their place?
