The book, out July 28, details Singer’s relationship with her alcoholic and abusive father, whom she once threatened with a butcher knife. It also sheds light on the end of her 22-year marriage to husband Mario Singer and her suicidal thoughts after she learned of his infidelity.

“I think once I became a ‘celebrity’ … and I was in the public eye – I think that bothered him,” the Real Housewives of New York City star told People Now while discussing her new book. “There would be moments where he would be very warm and loving, and then other moments that he was really vicious and mean, and would bully me. It was like, ‘who are you?’ It was scary, it was very scary.”

“I don’t recognize who he is today,” Singer said of her estranged husband. “That’s the only way I can heal with it, because when he’s across from me, he’s not the man that he was two years ago. He completely changed.”

Asked how she sees Mario Singer now, the Bravo star says he’s “dead” to her.

The Real Housewives of New York City airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Bravo.
