It was a night of highs and lows as So You Think You Can Dance challenged dancers with random dance styles, and we bid so long to one dancer from both teams. After viewers used the Twitter save to keep Moises Parra and Eddie “Neptune” Eskridge in the competition, the judges cut ballet dancer Darion Flores and waacker Lily Frias.

So which dancers gathered enough votes to stay in the So You Think You Can Dance competition? Let’s take a look back at the performances and see who may be packing their bags, and who will advance to the next round.

The Best of the Night

Ballet dancer Jim Nowakowski of Team Stage was paired with krumper Jana “JaJa” Vankova for a Christopher Scott hip-hop number. It was far and away the best routine of the night, and Jim had swag! The performance was the realization of judge Nigel Lythgoe’s dream to see different forms of dance blended and melded together. In fact, it brought the judge to tears. The duo also received a standing ovation from all three judges for their fresh and moving performance.

When Team Street members Virgil Gadson and Megan “Megz” Alfonso joined jazz dancer Alexia Meyer for a contemporary number, I held my breath. Could Virgil and Megz pull it off? Oh, yes! The routine, choreographed by Dee Caspary, was about a man whose life is controlled by two powerful women. Alexia danced well, and that was expected since she was in her comfort zone. I was floored by Megz’s elegance, and Virgil turned in a stand-out performance.

As part of a Bollywood performance with Lily Frias, Edson Juarez, and Burim “B1” Jusufi, tapper Gaby Diaz was the bright spot. It was an entertaining routine, but the other dancers failed to keep pace. I think Gaby is safe for another round.

Who is in Danger?

Team Stage members Hailee Payne and Darion Flores joined with freestyler Yorelis Apolinario for a salsa number. It was difficult to watch. There were a lot of lifts and tricks, and Darion nearly dropped his female partners a couple of times. Although the girls tried to be sexy, I think that the awkwardness of the routine will hurt Yorelis and Hailee in the vote department. Since Darion was already sent home, I think that these ladies are in a vulnerable place.

Hip-hop dancer Ariana Crowder and contemporary dancer Derek Piquette teamed up for a jazz routine choreographed by Ray Leeper. I wasn’t in love with the piece, and I felt that both dancers lacked energy and connection. It was missing panache, and probably won’t stick in most people’s minds. Both Ariana and Derek were in the bottom six, and were saved from elimination by the judges. I think they may be in the same predicament next week.

In the end, I think that Ariana and Derek will be eliminated. Tune in next week to see if your favorite dancer will continue on in the So You Think You Can Dance competition.
