Things may finally be getting better for Teresa Giudice and her family on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. But it took a lot of work for her and her family to make a little progress, and they’re still trying to be a more cohesive family. Teresa talked about her struggles last night on Watch What Happens Live.

First, Teresa explained why her brother calling her “scum” affected her so much that it eventually led to the blow-up between her brother Joe Gorga and her husband Joe Giudice.

“We didn’t grow up that way. He never spoke to me that way,” Teresa said about her brother calling her names. “And my thing is that if a friends says it to you, who cares? Because you forget about it and you can write them off. To me, it hurts more when it’s a husband, a brother, a father, When you’re family says something hurtful like that, you forgive but you never forget.”

But after they were able to sit down with Dr. V and communicate some of their issues, Teresa already started to feel as though a weight had been lifted.

“It felt great being hugged by my brother and I got up and hugged Melissa and that felt good too.”

Besides the help of Dr. V, Teresa called in Caroline Manzo to their retreat to see if she could help mediate as well. Dr. V said that Caroline’s presence was instrumental toward peace-making and Teresa said she was glad that she came.

“I called her because my brother didn’t want to talk to me, so my brother was the one who went to her from the beginning. I’m so glad she came, and she gave us this experience and that we all made up.”

Teresa also addressed the fact that despite it seeming like her and Melissa hugged and made up on the show, the two continued to take shots at each other on their respective Bravo blogs.

“After Melissa [blogged last week] afterwords, because I was very positive because we had made up, I called her and I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me? I thought we were in a good place, why are you ripping me to shreds?’ And she said, ‘Oh please get over it, I’m watching the episode and just blogging about how I felt at that time.’ And here I was trying to be positive.”

As for the war on the blogs, Dr. V said that the key to keeping their relationship in a good place is to always have the lines of communication open, and that it was good of Teresa to share her feelings with Melissa. And Melissa has already seemed to change her tune: her Bravo blog this week is very positive.

“Watching this episode put me back to that day and I want to hold on to that positive feeling,” Melissa wrote on this week’s blog. “when people hug and make up, for me, it’s done. The slate is clean. You can’t forget everything that happened, but you start from a new baseline each time.”
