This past Monday, Prison Break ended its third season, leaving viewers with possibly more questions at the end of the episode than they did at the beginning.  Michael was hell bent on revenge, looking to make Susan pay for taking Sara’s life.  Lincoln and LJ headed out on the run after parting ways with Michael.  T-Bag killed Lechero by smothering him, then took over Sona while Bellick cowered in a corner.

The Sona guards practically killed Sucre while pumping him for information about Michael but settled on making him a prisoner instead.  Mahone teamed up with The Company either to get inside information or save his own butt.  No storylines were resolved, meaning we’re in need of a fourth season.  However, in the last week, rumors have circulated, saying everything from the show being done to the show having a certain future on Fox.

In Michael Ausiello’s column on February 13th, a TV Guide reader asked about the fate of Prison Break. “All I know is that Season 3 comes to an end next Monday and the show remains on the bubble for falll,” he responded. “My guess? Prison Break as we know it will end, to be replaced next season with the “women in prison” spin-off that Fox has been developing. But that’s just a guess.”

Soon after the column went up, Prison Break writer Nick Santora dismissed Ausiello’s claim that the show was coming to an abrupt end. “A fourth season of Prison Break has not been officially picked up yet. But our next season is NEVER picked up this early in the year, so that doesn’t mean much,” he posted. “I disagree with Ausiello. I believe we will be picked up for a 4th season. I can’t guarantee it. I just feel it will happen. So don’t worry about rumors from reporters … if the show is getting cancelled, as soon as i know, I will tell you guys. but like I said, I don’t think it is going to happen. I have faith.”

This week, Ausiello returned, with some better news for fans. “Much to my surprise, I’m hearing a fourth season is pretty much a lock. Go figure,” he posted.  While he may not be looking forward to the show’s return this fall, the same cannot be said for the die hard fans of the show. With so many questions unanswered and so many storylines left up in the air, it just seems to be the right thing to do to give Prison Break at least one more season.
