One Tree Hill‘s Skills and Bevin once wept over The Notebook, and now Haley’s portrayer Bethany Joy Galeotti, has been inspired to write a musical based on the 1996 Nicholas Sparks novel. The tear-jerking story, which has later adapted into a popular romance film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in 2004, is about an elderly man reading a love story from his notebook to a female fellow patient who has lost her memory. However, the movie and the book have very different endings.

On a recent One Tree Hill podcast, Bethany Joy Galeotti found herself making up songs about the characters of The Notebook after seeing the movie based on the book. When she started writing them down, she said, “I thought, this is either going to be terrible, or it’s going to be great. I don’t know which it’s going to be, but I’ve gotta get this out.”

According to MTV, Bethany, who is working with record producer Ron Aniello, was able to get author Sparks’ approval through a mutual friend — and she’s now tested her work for Broadway producers and investors.

“[The producers] all said the music was amazing — ‘Don’t touch it, we love the music’ — which is just so, so encouraging for Ron and I because we worked really hard on that music … I was just super, super excited to get all this great feedback from people who really know what they’re doing, because I don’t. This is my first time venturing into this side of the theater world. It’s been an inspiring and intimidating and fun and exhausting and wonderful, wonderful journey that is not even close to over yet … It’s an amazingly emotional and moving story and I really hope we do it justice,” she said.

Catch Bethany Joy Galeotti on One Tree Hill when the series returns with all-new episodes beginning January 18.
