From one setback after another in his former onscreen character’s complicated life, Peter Krause was understandably reluctant to breathe life into another television series role.  Thanks to the stubborn persistence of his former Six Feet Under producer/writer, Krause now finds himself embracing his new alter ego on ABC’s upcoming Dirty Sexy Money.

It took a while for Craig Wright, former writer and producer on HBO’s Six Feet Under, to convince his friend and Six Feet Under star to do another television show.  The 42-year old Krause had rejected the offer to star in ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money, not once, not twice, but a total of four times.  The actor had apparently felt a certain exhaustion following five seasons as Nate Fisher on Six Feet Under.

“Television series are like having another life that is parallel to your own,” Krause told the Washington Post.  “You have to surrender a little bit to what tomorrow will bring… and just one awful thing after another happened to Nate.  It was difficult to want to continue to live that life alongside my own because there was some crossover.  It affects you.”

“I told him (Wright) that if I did do something, I’d want to do something that was ultimately more heroic than Nate Fisher,” Krause added.  “The complicated antihero is not something I needed to explore again.”

Krause certainly got his wish, as did Wright and ABC’s young and dynamic producer, Greg Berlanti.  Berlanti was so intent on securing Krause for the role that he even stalled ABC while Wright worked on bringing the actor on board.  Krause’s character for Dirty Sexy Money provides the moral compass for the show.  He plays an idealistic and noble lawyer following in his father’s footsteps as the chief legal adviser to the unscrupulous Darling family.

“There is a Faustian element to Nick’s journey,” Krause remarked.  “It’s an opportunity to play someone who is trying to do the right thing, but is tempted by wealth.”

Dirty Sexy Money premieres September 26.
