The fate of Michael Corinthos III is still uncertain as he remains comatose for an unspecified period of time.  Nevertheless, it appears unlikely that General Hospital writers would kill off a child, especially not the son of two of the soap’s main characters.  This doesn’t mean, however, that the character’s portrayer, Dylan Cash, will be sticking around much longer.

Cash, who literally grew up on-screen, has been reportedly let go by the ABC soap.  According to a show insider, the 13-year-old actor has been caught off guard by the firing.  The show is now exploring the possibility of “aging” and eventually recasting the role.

At the age of 7, Cash made his debut on General Hospital in March 2002 and was placed on contract with the show three years later.  Subsequently, his role became much more prominent.  During his six-year stint on the soap, he earned numerous awards, including a 2003 Young Artist Award in the Best Performance in a TV Series by a Young Actor.  Recently, his character Michael was accidentally shot by a bullet meant for his father, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), which ultimately led to his unconscious state.

There is now speculation that Michael will be “aged” while he is comatose and emerge from his unconscious state as a young adult.  Aging usually occurs when a character is off-screen for a period of time and returns older than what the character would have been had the character remained on-screen.

Meanwhile, there are also speculations that General Hospital is eyeing Jesse Lee Soffer, who played Will Munson on As the World Turns, as a leading candidate for Cash’s character.  The Emmy-nominated actor has already departed As the World Turns last month after spending nearly four years with the soap.  At 24 years of age, Soffer is nearly twice as old as Cash.

A final airdate for Cash has not yet been released by the network.
