The wait is almost over, as “Ultraman” season two is set to premiere shortly. But when exactly is the premiere? And what’s “Ultraman” going to be about? We’ll answer these questions and more below.

The Ultraman Season 2 Release Date

This announcement for “Ultraman” season two was first made by Ryohei Kimura, the Japanese voice actor who plays Shinjirou Hayata — the main character — at the Anime Ultraman Season 2 Kickoff Event held in Tokyo, Japan, in August 2021. Netflix also confirmed this on Twitter. So, you can expect the second season of “Ultraman” to premiere sometime in April 2022.

Where Can You Watch Ultraman Season 2?

Ultraman is a Netflix anime, so you can catch all the episodes of “Ultraman” season one on Netflix — same with “Ultraman” season two when it comes out in 2022. You’ll need to have a Netflix account and subscription to watch, however.

About the Ultraman Anime TV Show

The “Ultraman” anime is part of the Ultraman franchise. “Ultraman,” or the “Ultra Series,” is an old Japanese tokusatsu sci-fi TV series created by Eiji Tsuburaya. The character Ultraman first appeared in 1966 in “The Birth of Ultraman.”

The Netflix show follows the 2011 “Ultraman” manga series created by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi. Decades after the Giant of Light returned to his homeland after restoring peace on the Earth, the Earth now faces new aliens that must be repelled. Shinjiro Hayata (the Ultraman) finds out that his father was once the Ultraman, and as a result, he is able to wear the Ultra suit and protect the Earth from the forces that threaten its peace.

The TV show, like many other superhero series, centers around the hero and his need to protect the Earth against the villains who threaten it.

Who Are the Main Characters of Ultraman?

The main character of “Ultraman” are:

Shinjiro Hayata:

Ultraman-Shinjiro-Hayata

Shinjiro is not a new character in the Ultraman series; he made his first appearance in “Ultraman” (2011 manga). In the “Ultraman” anime, Shinjiro possesses supernatural powers, having been born to the former Ultraman, Shin Hayata. Shinjiro steps into his father’s shoes, wearing the Ultra suit and doing battle against aliens and other threats against his city. He does this alongside his Ultra brothers, Dan Moroboshi and Seiji Hokuto. The character is voiced by Ryohei Kimura.

Shin Hayata:

Ultraman-Shin-Hayata

Shin is the father of Shinjiro Hayata. The character made his first Ultraman appearance in episode one, titled “Ultra Operation No.1” of the 1966 “Ultraman” show. In Netflix’s “Ultraman” season one, Shin’s son, Shinjiro Hayata, steps into Shin’s legacy as the new Ultraman. The character is voiced by Hideyuki Tanaka.

Dan Moroboshi:

Ultraman-Dan-Moroboshi

Dan is an Ultra and a member of the Ultra Guard. The character made his first appearance in “Ultraseven” as the protagonist. Dan is from the City of Light and was sent originally to map the Milky Way, but he visits the Earth and is captivated. On his first day on Earth, Dan saves mountain climber Jiro Satsuma who fell while trying to save another mountain climber. Jiro is unconscious, but rather than merge himself with Jiro just like the Ultraman did with Shin Hayata, Dan morphs as a duplicate of Jiro but names himself Dan Moroboshi. Dan has unusual strength and the ability to teleport anytime he wants, and he uses his powers and strength to defend Earth. The character is voiced by Takuya Eguchi.

Seiji Hokuto:

Ultraman-Seiji-Hokuto

This character first appeared in “Shine! The Five Ultra Brothers.” Seiji and his family are involved in a fatal airplane explosion, and while his parents passed away, Seiji is found by another survivor, Yuko Minami, and is raised by Yapool as his own child. Like every other Ultra, Seiji is trained in combat and also has superhuman abilities, such as enhanced reflexes and superhuman strength. The character is voiced by Megumi Han.

Kotaro Higashi (Ultraman Taro):

“Ultraman” season two will feature a new character, Ultraman Taro, who will join the Ultra Brothers in the fight against evil aliens threats. The character will be voiced by Tomoaki Maeno.

Bemular:

Ultraman-Bemular

The character first appeared in “Ultraman” (2011 manga). Bemular is Shinjiro’s first opposition, and it is this incident that reveals to Shinjiro certain things about himself. It’s not clear what Bemular’s agenda is besides the fact that he wants Shinjiro and his father dead.

Bemular is still alive, and it’s yet to be known what his endgame will be — “Ultraman” season two might just crack the code. The character is voiced by Kaiji Soze.

Agent Adad:

Ultraman-Agent-Adad

Agent Adad is an alien, one of the villains in Ultraman. The character made his first appearance in “Ultraman” (2011 manga). Adad is one of the agents of the Star Cluster Alliance — although a not too trusted one. He often gets the vote to go on several missions to Earth, which makes him a threat and an opposition for the Ultra brothers. The character is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda.

What Can We Expect in Ultraman Season 2?

In season two, we’ll likely see the Ultra brothers — Shinjiro Hayata, Seiji Hokuto, and Dan Moroboshi — fighting together as a team after jointly defeating Ace killer.

Similarly, “Ultraman” season one ended with some plot threads still hanging and questions begging to be answered. For instance, we have our fingers crossed hoping to find out what Bemular’s end game will be or what Agent Adad and the Star Cluster Council are up to.

The introduction of a new cast member was announced sometime in 2020 when a teaser trailer for “Ultraman” season two was released. The announcement mentioned that the new character — Ultraman Taro — would be played by Tatsuhisa Suzuki. Suzuki would later announce on Aug. 4, 2021, that he was stepping down from playing the role due to allegations surrounding his marriage with celebrity wife LiSA.

Furthermore, if the poster and teaser are anything to go by, a major highlight of “Ultraman” season two might be the reunion of the six Ultra brothers — Shinjiro (Ultraman), Dan (Ultraseven), Seiji (Ultraman Ace), Taro (Ultraman Taro), Jack, and Zoffy.

“Ultraman” season two will be directed by Japanese animators Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki.
