Fans of Smallville might want to consider pleading the CW execs for another season of the show, even though that wouldn’t be much work at all.  The network’s president, Dawn Ostroff, has revealed that she thinks there’s a big possibility for the series to keep going, even to a tenth installment.

Talking to Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly, the network head said she was feeling positive about the outcome of this decision.  “I’m really pleased with the show,” Ostroff exclaimed.

She went on to say that Smallville doing incredibly well is all thanks to the fans.  Of course, the writers are also to be credited.  There’s really no better way of boosting a show’s ratings than flattery.

“Creatively, I think they’ve done a great job,” the CW president said.  “And the ratings are [strong] on Friday night.  I have to commend [the producers]…  It’s not easy in season 9 to keep a show fresh.  And you know what I think?  The fans have really liked the show this season.”

As for the hope of renewing Smallville and this season’s outcome, Ostroff replied: “I don’t know which way we’ll go, but if you would’ve asked me [earlier whether it would end this season] I would’ve said, ‘Oh, probably.’ But I can’t say that now.”

Still, they’re open to the idea of giving this long-running CW show another shot.  Right now, Smallville executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders could be working on the scripts.  It will certainly be difficult to wait for those, but again, they’re optimistic about it all.

“[W]e haven’t even gotten to how we’re going to deal with the last episode and whether it’s a season finale or series finale,” Ostroff went on.  “But right now, I think it’s just a season finale.”

Well, if they really want to end Smallville this year, maybe they can try thinking up another TV event like the upcoming “Absolute Justice.”  It could work for a finale, but of course a whole new season would be the preferred option.
