Fans who missed the SCI FI Channel broadcast of Battlestar Galactica‘s “Razor” are in luck, as the movie hits DVD today with an unrated, extended cut and a bevy of extra features.  “Razor” tells the story of Admiral Helena Cain’s struggles aboard the Battlestar Pegasus, and also presents clues to where Battlestar Galactica may be headed in its fourth season.

By far the best extra on the DVD is a featurette entitled “The Look of Battlestar Galactica,” which includes interviews with creator Ronald D. Moore, producer David Eick, and others discussing the look of the series.  Moore talks about the layout and structure of the ship itself, while Eick gives some insight about the camera work and stylistic choices used during Galactica‘s battle scenes.

“My Favorite Episode So Far” is a feature that will be particularly exciting for fans, as it highlights the stars of the show discussing their favorite episodes.  There’s also a collection of deleted scenes included, as well as seven two-minute minisodes that originally aired online.

For those wondering if the extended cut of the film really adds all that much, I’m happy to report that 13 extra minutes have been included.  The scenes themselves are rather minor, but they do improve the pace of the film and are a welcome addition.  The special features are rounded out with a season four sneak peek, and a commentary from Ronald D. Moore and writer Michael Taylor.

If the “Razor” DVD isn’t enough of a BSG fix, fans can pick up the HD-DVD release of Battlestar Galactica season one, which is also in stores today.
