For the second time, the American Idol Top 7 will take the stage Wednesday night thanks to the judges saving Jessica Sanchez. It also means the show will be jam-packed as each singer will take on two songs (that’s 14 in total for those of you who failed math).
Each singer will take on songs from “Now and Then,” aka current songs and old songs. And it seems like the singers are all drinking from the same musical trough.
This week’s set list features two Lady Gaga songs, two Alicia Keys songs and two Marvin Gaye songs. We’ll also get our fifth Adele song of the season (which ties The Voice this season for number of Adele covers) and our ninth song from an American Idol alum (this time it’s Fantasia).
Here are the 14 songs.
“No One,” Alicia Keys
“I Believe,” Fantasia Barrino
“Rolling in the Deep,” Adele
“U Got it Bad,” Usher
“Born this Way,” Lady Gaga
“Fallin’,” Alicia Keys
“Bad Romance,” Lady Gaga
“In the Midnight Hour,” Wilson Pickett
“A Change is Gonna Come,” Sam Cooke
“September,” Earth, Wind & Fire
“Son of a Preacher Man,” Dusty Springfield
“Try a Little Tenderness,” Otis Redding
“Heard it Through the Grapevine,” Marvin Gaye
“Let’s Get it On,” Marvin Gaye
So who’s singing what? Will Joshua “Mantasia” Ledet sing Fantasia (and will he dress up in drag for it in an ode to this week’s Glee)? Is anyone other than Jessica Sanchez dumb enough to tackle Adele? Will Colton Dixon get a standing ovation like he asked for?
Based on all of these song choices, it seems like Joshua Ledet and Elise Testone probably have the greatest chance of greatness since these genres are right in their wheelhouses.
