About Kardea Brown

Kardea Brown in Delicious Miss Brown

Well-known for representing southern African Americans in cooking TV, Kardea Brown stays true to her South Carolina roots while innovating in her kitchen. Lovingly called Miss Brown by friends and fans alike, she started cooking as a young girl in her grandmother’s kitchen. Her grandparents lived on Wadmalaw Island of South Carolina’s coastal Sea Islands, and Kardea spent a lot of time there when she was a child.

Miss Brown’s family is of Gullah/Geechee descent, and she often brings these terms into her cooking on the show. Gullah is used to describe West African Americans who are specifically from coastal South Carolina and Georgia. Miss Brown routinely talks about her Gullah roots, including her grandmother’s delicious Lowcountry cuisine and her grandfather’s culture. Her dishes incorporate local southern favorites like okra and good old-fashioned BBQ chicken and fried chicken.

While Kardea has mostly gained her fame through “Delicious Miss Brown,” she has extended her talents to other shows as well. In February 2021, Brown joined the seventh season of the Food Network’s “Spring Baking Championship” as a judge. She also signed a contract in 2021 to host the network’s “The Great Soul Food Cook-Off.” Over her career, Kardea Brown has additionally appeared on other Food Network shows, including “Beat Bobby Flay”, “Farmhouse Rules,” “Cooks vs. Cons,” “Chopped Junior” and “Family Food Showdown.”

Outside of her television work, Kardea Brown has been developing her first cookbook. Titled “The Way Home: A Celebration of Sea Islands Food and Family with over 100 Recipes,” her book is slated to be released on October 25, 2022, and is currently being accepted for pre-orders. She is active on social media, including Insta, Facebook, and TikTok, and she enjoys exchanging messages with her fans.

Did Kardea Brown Attend Culinary School?

Actually, no. Miss Brown grew up learning how to cook from her mother and grandmother. She honed her home cooking skills on the side while working professionally in social services after graduating from college with a degree in psychology. Dissatisfied with social work and encouraged by her boyfriend, in 2014, she applied and auditioned for a Cooking Channel pilot. Although she did get a pilot role, the role didn’t pan out for long-term success.

Shortly after, Kardea Brown went on to create a successful traveling dinner program called the New Gullah Supper Club. She traveled around the country catering Southern-inspired feasts and introducing dinner guests to her uniquely Gullah recipes. Miss Brown gained prominence and found attention from the Food Network. Fans were fascinated by her creations, such as her sweet potato-pie cheesecake. She was invited to participate in shows such as “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Cupcake Championship.”

It was in 2018 when Kardea Brown got the call from the Food Network asking her to film a pilot for a show that focused on her own southern recipes and home cooking. The first episode of “Delicious Miss Brown” premiered in July 2019. Since then, the show has enjoyed a strong following and the final episode of season six aired on March 27, 2022.

When is “Delicious Miss Brown” Season 7 Coming Out?

While no official announcement has been made regarding season seven of “Delicious Miss Brown,” there are a couple of reasons to believe there will be another season to look forward to. Kardea Brown posted to her Facebook page on April 28 with a clear hint that she intends to be working on a seventh season of “Delicious Miss Brown.”

She shared a photo of herself grilling a mystery meal, challenging followers to guess what she’s grilling for the upcoming season. Plus, she signed a two-year contract with the Food Network just recently in October 2021, so she has quite a bit of time left on that contract. It seems that fans can expect a seventh season. Release dates are to be determined.
