It’s awards season, and today the nominations for the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced. For TV shows, Modern Family leads all programs with four nominations while Game of Thrones, Homeland and House of Cards each picked up three.

Modern Family has been nominated six years in a row and has won the award for Best Comedy Ensemble for the past four years.  For Drama ensembles, this is the fifth nomination for Boardwalk Empire Steve Buscemi, which have both won twice.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus picks up her 10th individual nomination for Comedy Actress while Edie Falco now holds the all-time record for most SAG Award nominations with 21 (14 for The Sopranos and 7 for Nurse Jackie). She’s followed closey by Alec Baldwin at 20, David Hyde Pierce at 19 and then Kelsey Grammer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus with 18 each.

Notable newcomers on the TV side include William H. Macy for Shameless (which the SAG Awards agree is a comedy) and Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black. Another surprise is Uzo Aduba getting in for Orange Is the New Black.

It’s also clear that the SAG Awards love huge ensembles. On the drama side, Homeland has the smallest nominated cast with 12 actors while Downton Abbey has 20 and Game of Thrones has 24.

And for Comedy, there are 40 actors nominated in the ensemble of Orange Is the New Black. By comparison, the other four nominated Comedy ensembles have a combined total of 36 actors. The previous largest Comedy ensemble to be nominated was Desperate Housewives with 25 actors.

For the film categories, Birdman leads all movies with four nominations while The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything and Boyhood all have three nominations.

Meryl Streep picks up her 16th career SAG Award nomination and 15th for film with Into the Woods. However, it’s her first time being nominated as a Supporting Actress (she has 9 Lead Actress and 5 Ensemble nominations).

Two actors received individual nominations for their work in both TV and film, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock and The Imitation Game) and Mark Ruffalo (The Normal Heart and Foxcatcher). Also, Edward Norton will compete against himself as part of the emsembles of both Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel while Adrien Brody has nominations for TV (Houdini) and film (ensemble for The Grand Budapest Hotel). Other dual Ensemble nominees include Allen Leech (Downton Abbey and The Imitation Game) and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones and The Imitation Game)

This is the eighth year the SAG Awards have also honored the best stunt teams in film and TV. Game of Thrones (which won the past three years) is nominated again, alongside Boardwalk Empire, Homeland, Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead and 24: Live Another Day. 24 also won this award twice during its original run. All six nominees have been nominated before.

The 2015 SAG Awards will be presented Sunday, January 25 on TNT and TBS.
