More fresh faces are about to be added to Mystic Falls when The Vampire Diaries return with new episodes beginning January 21. Mia Kirshner, who is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Jenny Schecter on the Showtime drama series The L Word, will join the cast on a recurring capacity, according to Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello.

Kirshner, who will make her Vampire Diaries debut in the January 21 episode, is also credited for her work on 24 as the bisexual assassin Mandy, The Black Dahlia in which she played the young aspiring actress, Elizabeth Short, who was mysteriously mutilated and murdered in 1947, as Catherine Wyler, The Cruelest Girl in School, in Not Another Teen Movie, and Love and Human Remains in which she won a Genie nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

On The Vampire Diaries, Kirshner will be playing the role of Isobel, the “sweet-yet-dangerous wife of Matt Davis’ history teacher, Alaric.” A show insider reveals that although the January 21 episode has already been shot, show runner Kevin Williamson will be pulling off “an 11th hour re-shoot” to incorporate Kirshner’s character.

Aside from Mia Kirshner, The Vampire Diaries has enlisted Brandon Quinn, who is best known for his lead role in Big Wolf on Campus. He’ll be playing the character Lee in the episode “Bloodlines,” and according to SpoilerTV’s casting sides, he’s Lexi’s (Arielle Kebbel) menacing vampire ex-boyfriend who was originally set to appear during Lexi’s debut.
