Jason Mesnick Is The Newest 'Bachelor'

Female Bachelorette fans have had their wish come true! Today, ABC announced that last season’s runner up, Jason Mesnick, will become the newest Bachelor in the upcoming season. No one could forget Mesnick’s shock and heartache last season when DeAnna Pappas rejected his proposal in favor of snowboarder Jesse Csincsak. Jason couldn’t understand why DeAnna would have let him get all the way onto one knee before telling him that he wasn’t the one that she was in love with. DeAnna told host Chris Harrison, during a special Bachelorette episode, that she and Jason will remain lifelong friends and the two had put their past behind him. That may or may not be true but it seems that Jason is ready to move on and find love!

When the next season debuts in 2009, Mesnick will face a group of beautiful, eligible women who have no intention of leaving him the way that DeAnna did.  Not every Bachelorette fan is on board with the idea of Mesnick joining the show, though.  Many have expressed their apprehension at the idea of Jason joining the show for a second time, especially considering his young son.  Mesnick had to take a lengthy amount of time from Ty, his young son, in order to try to find true love and things didn't pan out.  He will once again take time away unless the season is filmed in Seattle, his hometown, which is doubtful.  Jason is not only choosing a wife, he's choosing a mother for his son, and some fans feel that a reality television show is not the place for that.

ABC said that Mesnick is "looking for a woman who has a real curiosity about the world, who loves life and can find passion in life’s smallest moments".  Host Chris Harrison recently said that, should Jason become the new Bachelor, "Ty would have to take center stage", which perhaps implies that he'll take the trip with his dad to film the show.  A single father on The Bachelor should bring a new feel to the show and hopefully, a little more class.  Jason doesn't seem like the kind of person who wants women to throw themselves at him and resort to extreme measures to get his attention.  The Bachelor will return to ABC in January of 2009.
