When Supernatural returns later this month, the Winchester brothers are trapped in an alternate universe with dinosaurs (Legends of Tomorrow crossover potential here!) and are in need of a little bit of help. Sam and Dean don't have many allies still alive to help them, but Jody Mills will launch a search for her hunter friends in the mid-season premiere.

BuddyTV spoke to Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles from their set in Vancouver with a group of reporters about the upcoming backdoor pilot, "Wayward Sisters."

The "Wayward Sisters" episode begins in a very similar manner as the original Supernatural pilot, which Ackles particularly liked about it.

"I also love the fact that it's a direct homage to the beginning of Supernatural in how it's coming together. Because Jody calls Claire and says 'the boys have been on a hunting trip and haven't been home in a few days'. Which is the exact same thing that Dean said to Sam in Episode 1, that Dad has been... I love that aspect of it, that-- the genesis of both of them are very similar in that aspect," Ackles said.

"Obviously the stories will be a little different, but it is this gathering of characters to go and save their friends. Or their family.  So right then and there that's a great foundation to build stories on."

While the new show Wayward Sisters hasn't been picked up to series yet, Ackles and Padalecki are both open to both doing crossovers and guest starring in the spin-off if it continues.
