It’s been nearly three months since Comedy Central aired a new episode of South Park, but fans of the animated comedy series only have to wait for a couple more weeks until the brand new season of the show premieres.

Early last week, Comedy Central announced that South Park‘s 12th season will begin on Wednesday, March 12, at 10/9c. It will be succeeded by the premiere of Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil, a show that features Black presiding over comedians like Greg Giraldo, Paul F. Tompkins and Patton Oswalt as they debate over who is more evil. The show’s “cases” include Oprah vs. The Catholic Church and Paris Hilton vs. Dick Cheney.

South Park, along with another animated series Lil’ Bush, is a scripted series, but because its production team is not a WGA signatory, it has not been affected by the strike.

The adult cartoon concluded its eleventh season with an episode called “The List,” wherein the girls of the fourth grade class draw up a secret list that rates the boys from cutest to ugliest. The boys steal the list, and find out that the girls have voted Clyde the cutest, and Kyle the ugliest. The devastated Kyle starts hanging out with others from the bottom of the list. In an effort to redeem his friend, Stan enlists the help of his ex, Wendy, and together they uncover a huge controversy and find out the great lengths girls will go to in order to get what they want.

The day before South Park‘s return next month, a special Director’s cut DVD of the shows’ highly-rated Imaginationland trilogy is set to hit retail shelves. The three episodes follow Stan, Kyle and Butters as they find themselves in Imaginationland in the midst of terrorist attack that releases all of mankind’s most evil imaginary characters. The government gears up to nuke Imaginationland, while Cartman looks for Kyle and demands that he make good on their bet.

The DVD contains special features such as storyboards, commentary and bonus material.
