So You Think You Can Dance is no stranger to controversy, but usually
it comes in the form of judge Nigel Lythgoe bashing same sex ballroom
dancers. However, eagle-eyed viewers were mortified after last night's
Atlanta auditions when they thought they saw a female contestant
flashing her lady business to the camera.
Hold onto your hats, because those viewers were not mistaken. While
most of us were lucky enough to avoid this controversy because of our
regular TV's, if you have a huge HD set and a pause button, you can
spot that during a montage of dancers from the
So You Think You Can Dance auditions, one female dancer revealed that she was going commando under her skirt.
Usually I'm not a prude, but this story leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
So You Think You Can Dance has always been good, clean fun. While other shows like
American Idol might feature Kara DioGuardi stripping or Simon Cowell making thinly veiled sexual innuendos to host Ryan Seacrest,
SYTYCD is as squeaky clean and fun as hostess with the mostest Cat Deeley.
If you absolutely, positively want to see it for yourself, blogger Perez Hilton posted a hi-def video of the incident, but in the interest of decency and the family-friendly fans of
So You Think You Can Dance, we won't post the link here.
This was an unfortunate mistake that shouldn't have happened, but to be fair, the vast majority of people watching the show probably didn't notice it, which is how it slipped by FOX's Standards and Practices. I understand that dancers don't want to restrict movement, but please, cover yourselves!
Dance should be seductive, not slutty. So bring on the sweet as sugar ice cream parlor girls and the wide-eyed, innocent young men, and let's try to put this hideous incident behind us.
We would all be better off if we listened to the wise advice of
Grey's Anatomy's Miranda Bailey, who famously told George to "Stop looking at my va-jay-jay!" I suggest we do the same.
