It is time once again to catch the So You Think You Can Dance hot tamale train for a night of suspense and, oh yes, dancing. Since we were without our dancing fix for a bit, let’s recap the eliminations so far. After some tinkering with the format, the first dancers cut were Brittany Cherry and Carlos Garland. After fan reaction to the dancers having to dance their partnered routines after being cut was, shall we say, a wee bit negative, the elimination process was changed again.
After the bottom six dancers were announced at the top of the show, the plan was to save one male and one female dancer. Since Jade Zuberi had to withdraw from the competition with a torn meniscus, the bottom two guys, Curtis Holland and BluPrint, were automatically saved.
The bottom three female dancers were Alexis Juliano, Jasmine Mason and Jenna Johnson. All three danced for their lives before performing with their partners. In the end, the judges sent home Jasmine Mason.

Get ready, people. This is the So You Think You Can Dance live blog!
First is a group contemporary dance that has me seeing red, quite literally. It is very dramatic.
Here are the JUDGES!! Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, our resident judges, are joined by singer Carly Rae Jepsen at the judging table tonight. Cat Deeley looks comfortable and cool in a short embellished dress.
Nigel Lythgoe tells us that So You Think You Can Dance received seven Emmy nominations. Nice!
And here come the results.

Solos
Makenzie Dustman’s solo is graceful and elegant, but a bit sedate. Alan’s solo features cape work. Curtis Holland performs an energetic tap routine. Mariah’s solo is strong. BluPrint’s animation solo is good, but lacks energy.
Next up are the partnered routines.

Alexis Juliano and Nico Greetham
Jive choreographed by Tony and Melanie
Alexis tells us that she has won dancing gold medals. Nico is a soccer player. Their jive is fun, but it seems as if there is a lack of connection. Nigel feels that Alexis and Nico lost energy during the routine.
Jenna Johnson and Tucker Knox
Contemporary choreographed by Travis Wall
What else should we know about Jenna and Tucker? Jenna loves to bake cupcakes. Tucker was a mouse every year for Halloween. This dance, in which Jenna is a person with no self-control, is beautiful and I love how Jenna dances with her arms suspended by ribbon, like a puppet. Mary Murphy feels that the routine is one of the most memorable of the season. She puts them on the hot tamale train, but she is too weepy to sound the whistle properly.
Mariah Spears and Dorian “BluPrint” Hector
Jazz choreographed by Brian Friedman
Mariah was a high school cheerleader. BluPrint is a pencil drummer. (Yes, really.) Their routine is fast and athletic. Carly feels that the routine is fun. Nigel Lythgoe thinks that the routine was good, but that parts were clunky.
Malece Miller and Alan Bersten
Hip-Hop choreographed by Dave Scott
Malece can eat a lot in one sitting. Alan is very emotional. I like this futuristic robotic hip-hop number. Nigel Lythgoe tells Alan that he needs to have more swag and be less stiff. Malece receives raves all around.
Hayley Erbert and Curtis Holland
Contemporary choreographed by Dee Caspary
Hayley is a beauty queen, and Curtis feels he could have been a pro basketball player. Hayley and Curtis are dancing while on a ladder. It is dramatic and creative. Mary Murphy feels that Curtis was a strong partner, but that he needs to drop his shoulders. Hayley, who is afraid of heights, is amazing. Nigel Lythgoe informs Curtis that he is not impressed with this performance, or his solo. Now on to the good stuff — this couple had a date night!
Amy Yakima and DuShaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall
Jazz choreographed by Tyce Diorio
Amy loves to go fishing with her Dad. Fik-Shun is a first-degree black belt. This duo are hobos in this entertaining jazz piece. Nigel Lythgoe tells them that they are “superstars” and that they are the couple to beat in the competition. Mary Murphy gives these hobos a well-deserved ride on the hot tamale train!
Makenzie Dustman and Paul Karmiryan
Hip-Hop choreographed by Dave Scott
Makenzie has a crush on James Franco. Paul is also an artist. In this sexy routine, Makenzie is a model and Paul is a photographer. This is one sizzling hip-hop number! Makenzie and Paul earn a standing ovation from the judges, and Nigel Lythgoe wants to put them on his own hot tamale train.
Jasmine Harper and Aaron Turner
Quickstep choreographed by Tony and Melanie
Jasmine reveals that she was a tomboy, and Aaron enjoys music. It’s time for the dreaded quickstep, which has been the downfall of many a dancer on So You Think You Can Dance. Jasmine and Aaron perform a steamy and smooth quickstep, and it is one of my favorite performances of the night. Mary Murphy enjoys the routine, as do Carly and Nigel Lythgoe.
