What do Henry Winkler, Michael Vartan and David Anders and all have in common? They’re just a few of the stars who will showing up on our favorite shows this fall. Check out the latest batch of casting news for Once Upon a Time, Parks and Recreation, The Mindy Project, Nashville and more:
Once Upon a Time recasts Robin Hood: Fairy tale characters are always showing up left and right on the ABC drama, but come season 3, Robin Hood will be played by someone entirely new. Tom Ellis had the role before but is being replaced by Sean Maguire because of a scheduling conflict, according to EW: “Although we love Tom Ellis, unfortunately he wasn’t available,” co-creator Adam Horowitz said. “We remain huge fans of his, but because we have an arc planned for the character, we had to move forward.” Maguire will appear in at four episodes in season 3.
The Fonz is Jean-Ralphio’s Father on Parks and Rec: That’s right — Henry Winkler is set to guest star on the NBC comedy this fall, reports The Hollywood Reporter. He’ll show up in the hour-long season 6 premiere on September 26, and may come back in future episodes.
Michael Vartan as a new love interest on Bates Motel: We all know Vartan from Alias (he recently starred on Hawthorne), but season 2 of the A&E hit, premiering in 2014, will see him again as a romantic interest, but this time he’ll be paired up with Norma, played by Vera Farmiga. He will play a divorced man named George, according to TVLine.
He won’t be the only new face in season 2. Also joining Bates Motel is Michael Eklund in a recurring role as Zane Carpenter, “a new upper level player in Dylan’s drug family,” notes Deadline.
David Anders as an UnSub on Criminal Minds: Speaking of Once Upon a Time, Dr. Frankenstein, or at least the actor who plays him, is set to guest star in episode 3 of season 9 as Anton Harris who, according to TVLine, is a serial slayer that lobotomizes his victims. Uh oh! (There’s a lot of OUaT and Alias connections in today’s Casting Bits that it’s like Six Degrees of Separation in here.)
Kim Kardashian’s ex guest starring on The Mindy Project: NBA player Kris Humphries will show up on the FOX comedy as himself. As TV Guide notes, this is the first time he’s appearing on a scripted show. No other details are known at this point.
With Happy Endings cancelled, the cast are free to pursue other projects. And Adam Pally is also joining The Mindy Project, reports TVLine. But instead of one episode like Humphries, Pally is signing on for a multiple-episode arc as a new doctor at the OB/GYN practice.
Lauren Stamile — from Grey’s Anatomy to The Mentalist: When the CBS drama returns for season 6 on September 29, expect to see Stamile in the premiere as Madison Yardley, whose husband went missing two years ago, TVLine reports. But she won’t go missing like her husband; rather, her body will be discovered.
Scarlett’s Childhood Friend on Nashville: Get ready for a new singer on the ABC drama set in the home of country music. The official Nashville Twitter account tweeted, “EXCLUSIVE casting news! @ChaleyRose has been cast as Zoey, Scarlett’s childhood friend who also has dreams of making it big as a singer.” Two predictions: Zoey will hook up with one of the guys in Scarlett’s life, or the two girls will battle it out for some job. One or the other, or both — because let’s face it, isn’t that what every show would do in a situation like this?
Roger Bart Joins the HIMYM Wedding: But not as a guest. Instead, he’ll be a hotel employee at Barney and Robin’s wedding venue in the final season, according to TV Guide. We don’t know how many episodes he’s expected to be in, but one other question remains: will he cast his Revenge on any the guests? (Sorry, I couldn’t help it.)
Michelle Forbes has her eye on Chicago Fire‘s 51: Firehouse 51 better be prepared because THR is reporting that Gail McLeod, a recurring role for Forbes, is showing up as a consultant from the State Fire Marshall’s office who’s there to monitor the budgets and performance at the fire houses.
Stephen Collins is Rachel’s father on Revolution: At Comic-Con 2013, it was announced that the 7th Heaven alum is joining season 2. Executive producer Rockne S. O’Bannon said, “[He] brings an entirely new perspective on [Rachel], her upbringing. He’s a very important part of the world we got to inhabit in the first part of the season.” It is unclear how big a part his role is, but in the new season 2 teaser trailer, we see him interacting with both Rachel and Miles.
Also joining Revolution is Nicole Ari Parker; she’ll be a recurring guest star, playing Secretary Justine Allenford, who’s considered a “strong and smart leader,” according to Deadline.
