The magic of veteran actor and timeless heartthrob Mark Harmon continues to cast a spell of near-invincibility to NCIS.  Amazingly, the naval investigation drama has stood up well in its Tuesday 8-9pm time slot opposite American Idol.  Last week, NCIS coughed up the best numbers for CBS in its own time bracket with a 3.1/8 share.  Overall, NCIS posted a total of 14.9 million viewers, just short the 15 million which helped Dancing with the Stars edge its ABC past NCIS‘ CBS.

Harmon and company are back tonight with an all-new case in the episode entitled “Internal Affairs.”

The NCIS team of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) find themselves in hot water tonight, as they become the subject of scrutiny in relation to the death of a notorious arms dealer.  When La Grenouille’s body surfaces, NCIS Director Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) becomes the FBI’s number one suspect.

Tonight’s episode marks the entry of a new recurring character, FBI Special Agent Wentworth (played by Robert Arbogast).  It also features the return of veteran actor Joe Spano as Sr. FBI Agent T.C. Fornell.  Other recurring guests are Scottie Thompson as Jeanne Benoit and David Dayan Fisher as Trent Kort.  Special guest is Rocky Carroll, who co-starred with Mark Harmon in David E. Kelley’s Chicago Hope, as new NCIS Assistant Director, Leon Vance.

NCIS also stars Michael Weatherly as NCIS Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, Sean Murray as NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee, Pauley Perrette as lab rat Abby Sciuto, David McCallum as Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard and Cote de Pablo as Mossad liaison Ziva David.

“Internal Affairs” airs on NCIS tonight at 8.  Don’t miss the remaining episodes to find out which regular cast member TV Guide‘s Michael Ausiello has hinted will be exiting the show at the close of the current season next month.
