Dr. Cristina Yang won’t be the only doctor checking out of Grey’s Anatomy at the end of the show’s current 10th season. Deadline reports that new series regulars Tessa Ferrer and Gaius Charles are not having their contracts renewed.

Ferrer and Charles became series regulars on Grey’s Anatomy this season after being introduced as new interns Leah Murphy and Shane Ross in season 9. There exits follow original cast member Sandra Oh, who is leaving the show at the end of the current season.

Both Ferrer and Charles had big storylines this season as their characters got romantically involved with other doctors. Murphy hooked up with Arizona Robbins during her split from Callie while Ross was Cristina’s sexual plaything in the first half of season 10.

This dramatically cuts the crop of new residents. At the start of season 9, five new doctors were introduced. Tina Majorino’s Heather Brooks died at the start of season 10. These two exits leave Jerrika Hinton’s Stephanie Edwards and Camilla Luddington’s Jo Wilson as the last remaining members of their intern class.

While ABC has not yet officially renewed Grey’s Anatomy for season 11, it seems likely since the network signed extensions for stars Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey. They each have additional two-year contracts, ensuring their presence on the series through the end of a potential 12th season.

How do you feel about Murphy and Ross not returning? Are there any other characters who you think should leave at the end of season 10 with Cristina?
