Doug Savant lingers in the entertainment scene with his courageous portrayal of highly controversial roles such as a gay character. His persuasive rendering became very challenging to acquire other projects that would showcase him otherwise. Fortunately, he also has the knack and the ability to deviate from branded roles, which has led to his inclusion on the television series Desperate Housewives. Born on June 21, 1964 in Burbank, California, Doug Savant got his major break on the night drama Melrose Place where he played the openly gay character Dr. Matt Fielding. After portraying the controversial character, he guest starred on television shows like Profiler, Firefly, JAG, Nip/Tuck, Harsh Harlem and 24. He was also included in the movie Godzilla and Masquerade.

On the comedy drama Desperate Housewives, Doug Savant plays Tom Scavo, husband of Lynette Scavo. Initially, his character was intended to be a recurring feature of the show but his witty portrayal has proven to be vital to the progress of the show. His character is engulfed in mystery, which has become one of the cornerstones of the plot.
