'Desperate Housewives' Star Devastated Over Her On-screen Daughter's Storyline

Teri HatcherThe finale of Desperate Housewives has certainly reset the series several years into the future to make room for more dramatic twists and suspenseful plots.  To that end, viewers got a glimpse of the big changes in store for the residents of Wisteria Lane.  While the biggest shock was Susan in the arms of a man (Gale Harold) who was not her husband Mike Delfino (James Denton), the most devastating for cast member Teri Hatcher was seeing Andrea Bowen, who has played her on-screen daughter Julie Mayer since the premiere, depart the ABC dramedy.

Hatcher, who plays klutzy Susan, reportedly slammed the producers of Desperate Housewives for axing Bowen, whose character on the series was sent off to college.  But her distress was even more aggravated when she realized that no going away party had been organized for the 18-year-old actress.

"I love her and adore her," Hatcher told USA Today.  "She is somebody who I have done the majority of my work with for four years.  I've watched her grow up from 13 to 18, get a driver's license, and I can't begin to tell you the depths of how impossibly hard it is for me to think about her not being there."

"This is a totally producer/network decision that I have nothing to do with, and I guess I can go out on a limb and say I don't support it," she added.

When Bowen's final take on the show as over, she collapsed in tears and fell into Hatcher's arms. Hatcher immediately threw together an on-set farewell party for her on-screen daughter.

"You've got to get a cake and some flowers, and you've got to get down there on her last day, because this is huge," Hatcher told the producers.

Meanwhile, Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry hints that viewers may not have seen the last of Bowen as she may be back on a future episode “as long as there is a show.”

"We'll have her back at some point, maybe when she's older, who knows?  She might get married and become a desperate housewife on the Lane," Cherry said.
