The news of Steve-O's elimination probably came as no surprise to most fans of Dancing with the Stars
last night. He has consistently been scoring at or near the bottom of the leaderboard every week, and the judges were getting visibly impatient with him.
For his very last performance on Dancing with the Stars
, he and his professional partner Lacey Schwimmer danced a rumba that earned them the widest spread in judges' scores that I've ever seen. Carrie Ann Inaba was evidently pleased with the performance, rewarding them with a 7. On the other hand, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli couldn't be harsher, giving him a 4 and a 5, respectively.
I, on the other hand, really enjoyed the progress that Steve-O and Lacey Schwimmer made throughout these past six weeks. Before the season even stared, I wrote Steve-O off as a complete non-starter. I thought that the only reason he wouldn't be eliminated first would be Lacey's popularity with fans. But he surprised me, that Jackass
. He ended up being a really sweet character, always trying earnestly to be his best and work hard. He is certainly very awkward and gangly, but he'll probably never lose those qualities, but he overcame a lot on Dancing with the Stars
, not the least of which was a pretty serious back injury that kept him from the stage for a week.
Some of my favorite Steve-O moments from the season occurred during their rehearsal tapes. I loved when Lacey broke out the clown costume for him. Who knew that he went to clown college? I also loved with his Jackass
co-stars paid him a visit. And my favorite word that I learned from Steve-O is "manstruate," as in, "Lacey had to put up with a lot because he tends to manstruate a lot." Heh.
Next week on Dancing with the Stars
, the seven remaining couples will perform one unlearned dance from among the styles that we have seen during the first six weeks of competition, plus a 1960s-themed group dance.
