In case you haven’t heard, 10-time Grammy Award-winning rapper Kanye West has been in talks to do a TV show similar to the HBO hit Curb Your Enthusiasm for the same cable network, with Borat director Larry Charles as the frontrunner.  Recently, however, it seems that the network has curbed its enthusiasm about it.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Charles hinted that the improvised show has been shelved, even though a pilot has already been shot.

“It was really good, but…I think it was too hard-core for HBO.  Also, HBO’s management shifted. HBO doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to black shows, and I felt like that may have had something to do with it also,” Charles told ComingSoon.net.  “I don’t see a lot of shows about that experience at all. T his was very entertaining and we showed it to a lot of people.  People gave it a very good response, and it seems to be on the shelf right now.  The management has shifted at HBO so we’re waiting to see.”

According to Charles, Kanye’s version of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm was an idea that the rapper came up with.

“What Kanye West said to me the first time, he said, ‘I’m the black Larry David.’  That’s the first thing he said to me.  So it’s like a Kanye-and-Curb show, it’s kind of improvised about the situations and stuff,” he said.

On the other hand, a representative for HBO said she had no knowledge of Kanye’s show’s status, noting that the project has been in development for some time.

“Until it is actually shot or picked up as a pilot, we don’t have any info,” the rep said.

Meanwhile, there is no word yet on when the original Curb Your Enthusiasm series will return for its seventh season.  According to reports, delays to production have been attributed to Larry David getting a part in a Woody Allen movie.
