Finally, we hear from Adam Rodriguez himself about his departure (of sorts) from CSI: Miami.  So he finds himself shot, in a coma, and then just disappearing, more or less.  And the reasons are, well, other opportunities–that, and reading between the lines, it’s something he didn’t exactly expect.

“It was just that time in my career,” he told Latina magazine.  “I just felt like I’m really ready to see what life has to offer next; as an artist, you want to branch out and do other things.  It was all pretty sudden, but it’s something to look forward to and see what the next adventure will be.”

Read-between-the-lines mode: “It was all pretty sudden.”  Hrmmm.

But, of course, we’ll still see him around, in a handful of episodes this season.  “I won’t be in every episode but I will be coming in and out of the show throughout the season, so I’m looking forward to still getting to spend sometime with my CSI family,” he said.

“My character, Eric Delko, had some great storylines,” he added.  “I’ve been very lucky.”

And maybe that one last great storyline involves his hospitalization, and how it’ll affect Calleigh (Emily Procter) heavily.  A rep for the show told the folks at TVGuide.com that the bullet she fired in the last season finale–that scene at the warehouse, which resulted in a shocked Calleigh when she realized she shot at her boyfriend–will have a really big impact on the season premiere.

Hrmmm.  Is there a chance for one last Delko-Calleigh scene, one last conversation, before he (shudder) dies?

If you find yourself missing Adam early, you might want to catch his latest film, Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself, where he pairs up with Taraji P. Henson (who you might remember as Benjamin Button’s adoptive mom).  He plays a Colombian immigrant who finds his way to the United States looking for a better life.

And then that funny bit during shooting one of the early scenes: “[Taraji] gets some sad news and I’m consoling her and at the end of the moment we started kissing and no one called cut so we continue kissing and kissing.  We were waiting for someone to say something but we didn’t want to break the scene.  All of sudden Tyler comes running in hysterically laughing and yells, ‘What are you people doing?  There is no kiss written in the script at this moment!  Where did you get the idea to kiss?’  For some reason we thought there was a kiss at the end of the scene.”

Tsk, tsk, tsk, Delko, Calleigh’s right there, crying…
