Christmas is still four months away but Bones is already giving its fans a treat by announcing that Zooey Deschanel, movie star sister of Emily Deschanel, will possibly be making a guest appearance on the show this December.

With both Deschanel sisters in the entertainment circuit, Bones fans have been waiting for this on-screen pairing for quite some time now. However, “Zooey’s rockin’ career kept getting in the way,” according to show exec producer Hart Hanson.

While older sister Emily has been solving crime mysteries as Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan on the small screen since 2005, younger sister Zooey has been making a name for herself in the big screen with supporting roles in Almost Famous and The New Guy, before playing lead in All the Real Girls, Elf, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, The Happening, Yes Man and 500 Days of Summer. We’ve witnessed how engaging they both are separately, now it’s time to see how their on-screen chemistry plays out when Zooey appears as a relative of Emily’s Brennan on Bones.

“We’ve been looking for an opportunity to get the Deschanel girls together,” Hanson told Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello. “We alluded to [Bones] having a cousin in Minnesota two seasons ago. I’d very much like to meet her in the Christmas episode.”

Of course, that’s assuming that Zooey’s schedule can accommodate the filming of Bones. At present, she’s busy working on the movie Your Highness, a fantasy comedy about an arrogant, lazy price and his more heroic brother who must complete a mission in order to save their father’s kingdom. Zooey, who plays Belladonna, stars alongside Natalie Portman, James Franco, Damian Lewis and Danny McBride.
