TJ Thyne has been a regular on FOX's
Bones since the show debuted in 2005, but believe it or not, the 32-year-old actor spent the previous part of his career avoiding jobs that would have him playing the same character all year long, hence his numerous guest-star stints on several television programs.
“I've always resisted the whole 'series regular' thing,” Thyne told thetvaddict.com. “Over the years I've tested for so many shows and when I got to the studio test, I'd pull myself out thinking, ‘I can't spend 6 years on a show playing the same character, I can't do it!…' To me, the idea of playing different [characters] in different genres was always what I wanted to do.”
However, Thyne said that his thinking changed when he was presented with the opportunity to play entomologist Jack Hodgins on
Bones. Fortunately, the risk paid off, and now, Thyne is part of one of the highest-rated shows on television.
“I'm so glad I [took the risk],” he told thetvaddict.com. “Jack's got a lot of different layers, we've got an amazing cast, great writing and [series creator] Hart Hanson is a genius in terms of being a showrunner.”

Bones is a forensics/procedural drama that follows a forensic anthropology team at the Jeffersonian Institution as they help the FBI solve mysteries by studying human remains. Aside from TJ Thyne, the show stars
Emily Deschanel,
Eric Millegan,
Tamara Taylor,
Michaela Conlin and
David Boreanaz. The latter two previously worked with Thyne on different productions.
“David was great to work with on [The WB supernatural series]
Angel. I played his lawyer for 4 episodes,” Thyne said. “I also worked with Michaela on [the medical drama]
MDs…”
As a series regular, TJ Thyne doesn't have a lot of time to explore other projects, including films. Nevertheless, Thyne said that he is happy with his stint on
Bones, and could very well play the role “for the rest of his life.”
“I'm glad I never took anything before that would have prevented me from being on
Bones,” he said.
