Big Brother 8
evicted its first houseguest tonight and the result wasn't all that big of a shocker. It's really hard to have a surprising result after one week. Whoever leaves isn't going to deserve their exit. Nor have they really had enough time in the house to prove that they deserve to stay. Mostly, they'll go down as a footnote. But, that's okay. At least they can enjoy the summer outside the stress-filled Big Brother house. These Thursday night live eviction episodes are always loaded with filler, as reality TV results shows tend to be, but I enjoy them because of the live interviews between the houseguests and Julie. Always a train wreck. On to the recap!
Carol or Amber?
The houseguests ponder who to vote to evict. At times, it looks as if the house is pretty even, but as things move along, Carol's chances look worse and worse. Amber and Dustin are turning into BFFs, and for that reason Joe thinks about trying to keep Carol in the house, but his attempts are fairly half-assed. Carol just wasn't all that motivated to go campaign for herself. She briefly talks to ex-nemesis Jessica about teaming up, but there was no way Jessica is going for that. Things don't look good for Carol.
Diagnosing Dick and Daniele
The first segment of the year that takes us away from the Big Brother
house is a look at the strained relationship of Dick and Daniele through the eyes of their family. We talk to Daniel's brother/Dick's son. He says the reason Daniele stopped talking to Dick two years ago was that Daniele borrowed some money from Dick that she was unable to pay back and Dick reacted to this is an unfavorable manner. That's it. Dick's son loves him and wants the two to get back on speaking terms. Dick's mom/Daniele's grandma also appears and expresses her desire for the two to make amends.
Eric Disappoints his Family
The other canned segment of the night involves Eric's friends and family. They show us footage of them watching the premiere episode of the season last Thursday. They didn't know that Eric was going to be named America's Player and when they find out everyone is very disappointed. They think that being America's Player is going to severely hinder Eric's game play ability. Whatever. I think he'll be fine.
It's time to announce the results of the voting. As both nominees give their final speeches, Amber cries. Again. For the third time in the episode. She has incredible tear ducts. Julie Chen tells us that Carol has been evicted from the Big Brother
house with a 10 to 1 vote. America told Eric to vote to evict Carol. It's unclear who voted for Carol to stay. Her post-interview with Julie is sufficiently awkward, which is all anyone can really ask for.
Jen Rules “Majority Rules”
The Head of Household competition tonight was “Majority Rules”, an oldie but a goodie. Each player gets in an answer stall (except for Kail, who has to relinquish HoH) and can answer with “A” or “B” to any of Julie Chen's questions. Julie asks questions to the houseguests and the houseguests have to try and guess the answer that the majority will choose. Whoever is in the minority is eliminated. The last person remaining wins Head of Household. And, in a stunning turn of events, Jen wins and will be the new Head of Household. She was the likeliest to be eliminated next, so this definitely changes things. And, don't think that she'll be polite with her nominations.
