Avatar: The Last AirbenderPreviously, BuddyTV reported of the possible casting of Australian actor Jonathan Nguyen as Aang on the live-action film adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.  While the studios have yet to confirm this casting news, more names have started to surface on the web.

Various fan sites, including one dedicated to M. Knight Shymalan, who is set to direct the live-action Avatar movie, are reporting that a Greek actor named Ether Brent has been cast in the role of Sokka, a fifteen-year-old warrior of the Southern Water Tribe who is known to be skeptical but patriotic and sharp-witted.

Unfortunately, not much is known about Brent nor his acting credits at this time.

Another name that has been tossed in the mix is young actor Noah Hunt.  The teen reportedly auditioned for the role of Zuko, although it is not clear whether he landed the part or not.  In the cartoon series, Zuko is a skilled firebender and son of Fire Lord Ozai.  He was initially portrayed as an antagonist, intent on capturing Aang with the help of his Uncle Iroh.

Speaking of Uncle Iroh, the voice behind the elderly character, Greg Baldwin, has been sharing his thoughts about the upcoming Avatar movie with fans via the Distant Horizon forum.  He said that he would “love to” appear on the live-action feature, but knows that Shymalan would prefer differently.

“I have a feeling that M. Night will go with an established actor in the role of Iroh, especially since he's hinted that the Gang will be played by young unknowns,” he wrote on the forum.  “Maybe I can get a cameo.”

Baldwin, however, offered his take on who should portray uncle Iroh.

“Some of you may think this is WAY off base [but] I think [Boston Legal star] William Shatner would make a good Iroh,” he said.

Late last month, Baldwin posted on the forum again, telling of a teen who approached him at a grocery store and told him that auditioned for the role of Sokka and had received a call back.  Baldwin, however, did not disclose the teen’s name.
