While Nina Dobrev’s return for The Vampire Diaries‘ final season has been strongly hinted in the past, no confirmation has been given even now as the show heads into its final stretch of filming. The CW president Mark Pedowitz still would not reveal whether Dobrev would reprise her role as Elena Gilbert, but he did tease cautiously at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

“The best way I can answer that is, [executive producers] Julie [Plec], Kevin Williamson, the studio and The CW promise a fantastic series finale,” he said.
The Vampire Diaries is currently filming episodes 13 and 14 of its 16-episode final season.
During the summer TCA press tour, Pedowitz said there were already discussions going on with Dobrev. “We’d love to have Nina back. She was great for The CW. She was integral for The Vampire Diaries,” he said at the time. “Hopefully she’ll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned a great series finale [that will satisfy fans].”
Do you think Nina Dobrev will return before The Vampire Diaries ends?
The Vampire Diaries returns for its final episodes starting Friday, January 13 at 8/7c on The CW.
