Eileen Davidson will be returning on The Young and the Restless to play her signature character, Ashley Abbott.  The 48-year-old soap veteran will be appearing as part of a three-day arc storyline beginning on Friday, December 28, on Tuesday, January 2, and on Wednesday, January 3, 2008.

Davidson was cast on the long running soap in March 1982, beating out more than 100 candidates.  As the original Ashley Abbott, Davidson became an integral part of show. After seven years of playing a front-burner character, she left The Young and the Restless in February 1989, which prompted the producers to continue featuring the character with a look-alike actress.

Following several appearances on primetime television, Davidson returned to daytime soap to assume the role of Kelly Capwell on Santa Barbara, before landing yet another signature character, Kristen Blake, on Days of Our Lives in May 1993.  Five years and a year-long vacation later, she came back to The Young and the Restless only to be released from the soap due to lack of storyline.  She was last seen as Ashley on January 11.

In a surprise move three months later, Davidson signed a three-year contract with sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful to once again portray her Young and the Restless character, Ashley Abbott, a role she continues to play at present.

For the duration of Davidson’s absence on The Young and the Restless, Brenda Epperson Doumani took over the role from 1989 to 1996 but was replaced by Shari Shattuck until 1999.

Though not much has been revealed about Davidson’s upcoming storyline, her character will be marking her come back after she accepted a position with House of Kim and took Abby, her child with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), with her to Hong Kong.

Stay tuned for more updates about The Young and the Restless‘ upcoming storylines.
