For three weeks now, the main drama on The Bachelorette could be summarized thus: does Wes, or doesn’t Wes, have a girlfriend back home?

During Monday night’s episode, recently eliminated contestant Jake returned to tell Bachelorette Jillian that the rumors about Wes were true, and he even knew the at-home honey’s name: Laurel.

Wes continued to deny the accusations, while Jake stuck to his guns. Ultimately, Jillian believed Wes, and gave him a rose.

People Magazine spoke with Laurel Kagay, 29, who said she was shocked to hear her name come up, and at the accusations being made.

“I was like, ‘What?’ There was this pause before he said my name – and then he said it quite a few times,” Kagay said. “I’m absolutely not with Wes, nor would I be with Wes if he were going on a show to be with another girl. That’s absolutely crazy.”

She insisted her relationship with Wes is purely platonic, though she admitted that outside eyes might interpret it differently.

“We are really good friends and we do go out to lunch together, so I could see how people could think we’re together.”

So how could Jake have gotten the idea that Wes and Laurel were still together?

“I think he was definitely upset about not being on the show anymore. And I think Wes did say something about his ex-girlfriend. Maybe he said he still cares about me or whatever. Maybe he talked a little too much about me, and Jake just blew that into something else,” she said.

Surprisingly enough, Laurel is also linked to not one, but two other Bachelor alums! She dated Bachelor Brad Womack (who three seasons past chose none of his female contestants) for about four years, Kagay said. At one time she also dated Colin Evans, who appeared as a contender for Bachelorette Jen Schefft’s heart not too long ago.

Laurel said she’s not sure how she ended up involved with so many men from the same TV franchise, but that “Brad and Wes are like night and day — they’re so different. So it’s crazy.”

“They have not shown Wes’s real personality at all,” Kagay said. “He’s so funny. When I was in a relationship with him, we were always laughing and having fun. And I never worried about him cheating on me.”

Kagay is eager to see how things turn out for Wes on the show, whom she says seems like a good fit for Jillian in real life.

“She seems to have fun and has a good personality, and he’s really fun and funny. Too bad all this craziness had to go down.”
