Sons of Anarchy Season 7 premieres in just over a week and we got the scoop from Executive Producer and Director Paris Barclay at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. He discussed Gemma’s situation, who will die, rocker guest stars, and the tone of the season.

Barclay didn’t hold back at all when he said that two of the actors in the room who didn’t know that their characters would die in Season 7. Since they were filming episode 7, it could be looked at that two of them make it through most of the season.

The cast in the room at the time included, Katey Sagal, Kim Coates, Mark Boone Junior, Theo Rossi, David Labrava Drea De Matteo, Niko Nicotera, and Tommy Flanagan.

Outside of the club, Gemma’s in a precarious situation after killing Tara last year. When the season opens, Jax has no clue that his mother was responsible for killing the love of his life.

“It’s impossible for Gemma frankly now. I don’t think there’s any coming back from before. Even if she did it with the best of intentions, it’s still beyond the pale. You know when Jax finds this out, it’s not going to be pretty. After all, she can cover her tracks as long as she wants but sooner or later the chickens are going to come home to roost,” Barclay said.

“And she’s really going to have no place to go. I think she has to do what Gemma does, which is scramble and hope that it works out. And eventually I’m sure she has a plan to beg forgiveness and it may or may not work. May or may not work.”

The season will be set up in the premiere, including several scenes which won’t appear to be important, but end up being critical. Barclay explained, “There’s a lot of events in the premiere, and some of them are very early in the premiere, of what’s going to happen later on. Scenes which seem to be just informational about people, actually you’ll find by the middle of the season, end up being much more important than you thought they were.”

While the premiere episode is important, he continued, “The episode that you don’t want to miss is four.”

There are two rockers heading to Sons of Anarchy Season 4, including Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love. Barclay thought they were both fantastic in their roles. Manson plays Tully as the head of the Aryan Brotherhood and will appear several times over the first 7 episodes. He’s Jax’s main contact in prison.

Courtney Love plays one of Abel’s teachers and interacts with Gemma. Barclay teased, “It’s not quite what it seems to be and ends up being very important to our plot later on.”

Sons of Anarchy Season 7 appears to be even darker than the previous seasons, “There’s been a couple of sad days already on Sons. That’s why people tune in to see which days are sad and which days are happy. There are more sad days than happy days. Don’t expect there to be a lot of chuckles.”
