It’s Kristen Taekman’s first season as a cast member on The Real Housewives of New York City, and while she has melded pretty well with the ladies, she and her husband seem to be having a rough go of it.

Kristen explains on her Bravo blog, that getting a chance to watch herself on the show this season has been very helpful to her relationship with her husband, Josh. Especially after the incident in this week’s episode where Josh came home late for dinner without calling.

“I made the effort, and for Josh to see that, it was like therapy for him,” Kristen said of watching the episode with Josh. “He really opened his eyes to how important it is to communicate, to be respectful of my efforts and to find a better way to handle all the stress from work.”

At the end of the day, Kristen reassures everyone that despite how they may seem to be extremely unhappy on the show, they’re still together and working on getting to a better place.

“Marriage is hard work. It has its ups and downs. I think it’s really hard when your children are young — lots of stress and pressure,” she wrote. “This show was one of the best things that happened to us. Getting a bird’s eye view on our marriage is just what we needed. Turns out watching our arguments has been the best therapy for us. At the end of the day, Josh and I love and support each other, and I couldn’t have done any of this without him. He also realizes how he needs to separate work from family and how important it is for he and I to connect. It’s been great for both of us.”

Kristen is also receiving some support from an unexpected place. Brandi Glanville, of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, suggests that people (on the Internet, especially) give Josh and Kristen a break. Okay, so maybe it’s not so unexpected that the two ladies are old friends.

“Your hubby Josh is having a rough go of it,” Brandi tweeted. “He’s a really good guy. I hope that everyone knows there is much more to him.”

In next week’s episode, Kristen and Josh will sit down for some real therapy. Let’s hope they can learn just as much from watching that episode as well.

The Real Housewives of New York City airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Bravo.
