After spending three seasons as the likable yet stern matriarch on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Caroline Manzo saw her popularity take a plunge as she aligned herself against Teresa Giudice and proved that she was more than capable of being a bully. Now Caroline is talking about her experience last season, replacing Danielle Staub as the villain and what her future on the show may hold.

“It’s a matter of perception,” Caroline told In Touch Weekly. “Everybody has their opinion of Teresa. She has a tremendous fan base and to some, I became the new Danielle.”

Speaking of Danielle, the rumors that she will be returning to RHONJ after leaving two seasons ago don’t seem to have much impact on whether or not Caroline will return.

“Does not even faze me,” Caroline said. “If she’s talking, I don’t know about it. I only know what I read from you guys and I’m like, ‘Ooh, interesting.'”

But she might welcome Danielle back after all of the negative feedback she’s received after the last season of the show.

“Listen to me, don’t take it so serious. It’s just a show. We don’t need death threats,” Caroline said on Anderson Live, referring to the responses coming in through social media. “It’s just a television show. I don’t take it that seriously. I don’t wish bad on anyone.”

As for the future, Caroline tries to keep a positive attitude for the upcoming season, which she says she will be a part of.

“I at least know how I feel and the past is where I want it to be. It’s in the past,” Caroline told In Touch. “I feel good about [this season] and I’m going in with a very positive attitude and you know, Caroline is back!”

And her relationship with Teresa may still be strained, but Caroline is sure that they at least can exist in the same space without hating on each other, despite the nasty things both of them had to say to one another last season.

“I don’t know if we could go back to where it was, but I’d certainly like to be able to get into, ‘How’s the kids? How’s everything?’ Civil. We can be civil, certainly. But if it will go back to where it was, that’s doubtful.”
