Originally conceptualized as “Desperate Housewives for teens,” Pretty Little Liars revolves around the four prettiest girls in a quiet little town of Rosewood – Spencer, Hanna, Aria and Emily – whose friendship crumbles after their Queen Bee Alison mysteriously disappears.
One year later, things start resembling a creepy horror movie (I Know What You Did Last Summer, anyone?), when they begin to receive threatening messages from someone codenamed “A” – things that only Alison could have known.
Set to kick off on June 8, Pretty Little Liars is based on a series of young adult novels by Sara Shepard. It stars Troian Bellisario as Spencer, Ashley Benson as Hanna, Lucy Hale as Aria and Shay Mitchell as Emily.
The teaser is foreboding: The girls are friends again, but will they be there for each other if their secrets come to light?
This looks more slasher flick than Desperate Housewives, so unless the mysterious persona turns out to be a new girl in town with a new secret, Pretty Little Liars better shed that tag pronto.
