Nathan Fillion has been tapped for a role on ABC’s hit series, Desperate Housewives, but the Edmonton-born performer wasn’t keen on sharing specifics about his character on the show.

“I would hate to spill anything accidentally and spoil it because it’s such a great show,” Fillion said at an ABC party.  “It’s a show of revelations, the stuff that makes you go: ‘Ooooo!’  It doesn’t take itself seriously, that’s for sure.  Not a lot of action.  I’m not shooting anybody.  No spaceships, no horses.  No brooding.  It sure makes it easy.  I stay very clean.  And if I get to some bedroom scenes, that’ll be very nice.”

He also told reporters that he will be playing a doctor named Adam Luther, and that his wife will be played by actress Dana Delaney (Kidnapped).  His character will move into Wisteria Lane during the fifth episode of the new season.

Although viewer reception will be a factor in determining whether or not Fillion and Delaney’s characters will become regulars on the show, the 36-year-old actor is excited about his involvement in the well-established series, considering his past stints on quickly canceled shows.

“They’ve hit upon something that people really like,” Nathan Fillion said of Desperate Housewives.  “They’ve worked hard and they’re reaping the benefits.  They’re not snotty about it, either.  They’ve been so warm and so welcoming to me, they’ve made it very sweet.”

Fillion most recently starred in the cross-country road-race drama series, Drive, but after only four episodes, FOX took it off the air.  He suffered the same fate in 2002, when Joss Whedon’s cult sci-fi drama Firefly was placed on the chopping block after only 12 episodes.

“The secret is to have a good time while it lasts,” Fillion said.  “If you learn to have a good time, everything else becomes no big deal.  There are no guarantees in Hollywood.”

However, the actor did admit that being cast in the drama series is liberating.

“There’s no pressure here.  They’ve done all the hard work.  All I have to do is kick back and relax and enjoy their hard work,” Nathan Fillion said.

The fourth season of Desperate Housewives will premiere on September 30.
