The sixth and final season of Lost really is shaping up, and another name gets thrown into the fore: Japanese superstar Hiroyuki Sanada is joining the series as, well, someone.

That seems to be the catch.  Unlike the other major casting detail for this season–Deadwood‘s John Hawkes, who’s playing charming and edgy company spokesperson Lennon–which was surprisingly full of details, we’re all left in the dark as to the nature of Sanada’s character.  In the words of Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello, who broke the news first: “I squeezed every last one of my moles for deets and the only thing I came up with is that it’s a ‘significant recurring’ role.”

And looks like that’s all we’ll know: that it’s a “significant recurring” role, nothing more, nothing less.  Beats us waiting months.

Anyway, the least we can say is that Sanada starred in Hollywood films such as The Last Samurai and Rush Hour 3, apart from being obviously big in Japan.  That aside, the rest is left for your theories, as to what exactly he’ll be doing when the final season comes along.  Thoughts?
