HBO has renewed its freshman drama The Leftovers for a second season, likely to air in summer 2015. While an episode count was not revealed, it’s also likely that season 2 will receive 10 episodes, the same as its inaugural run. Will we have some of our questions answered next year? This is a show steeped in mystery, so there will probably be more questions than answers.

“We are thrilled to bring back The Leftovers for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta,” President of HBO Programming Michael Lombardo said in a statement. “It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain.”

The Leftovers tells the story of life following The Sudden Departure when 2% of the world’s population vanished. The residents living in the town of Mapleton have had to deal with the aftermath ever since. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta, who created the show with Damon Lindelof. Both are executive producers. And Lindelof also serves as showrunner; this is his first major TV series since ABC’s Lost.

The series stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max and Charlie Carver and Annie Q.

Season 1, which is currently airing, will conclude on September 7. The pilot drew 1.77 million viewers, and has since averaged about 1.57 million, with 1.58 million viewers (and a 0.8 in the 18-49 demographic) tuning in for the most recent episode on August 10.

The Leftovers airs Sundays at 10pm on HBO.
