Earth Day will be celebrated this year on April 22nd and in preparation for the big day, Disney brought some star power to Los Angeles to raise awareness about the environment. Hannah Montana stars Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso was among the group that helped share ideas on how kids can make a difference and help our planet. Selena Gomez and David Henrie of Wizards of Waverly Place and Maiara Walsh of Cory InThe House were also in attendance.

The event took place at TreePeople in Los Angeles, a non profit company that tries to use nature to help heal major cities that have been damaged by pollution. For part of the day, the Disney stars planted new trees. “I’ve never planted a tree before,” Osment said excitedly. “There’s so much that goes into it between the mulch, digging the hole, making sure the roots don’t get too much sunlight and watering it properly, and as a group activity, it was a lot of fun!”

The actors also gave their tips for helping the environment. “I like to shop for vintage clothing, which is part of my reusing and reducing plan,” said Musso. “I love the look, and it also helps save the Earth.” Selena Gomez said, “I love being in the garden with my grandmother, spending time planting vegetables and pretty flowers, and then picking the ripe veggies to cook up yummy meals.”

Maiara Walsh suggested one easy way that kids can pitch in. “My number one thing is to recycle everything from newspaper to aluminum cans, and I even use a canvas bag instead of the plastic ones when I go to the grocery store.” Even animated characters Phineas and Ferb got in on the action, encouraging all kids to get their parents and plant a tree in their backyard.
