With the current global pressure to become more environmentally friendly, plus the skyrocketing price of gas, the star of Disney’s Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus is reportedly joining the wave of Hollywood A-listers to adopt a greener stance in their lifestyles.

Miley Cyrus has a considerable influence on her legion of fans, kids and their parents alike, so her decision to join the “green” movement suddenly makes it cool and something kids across the country will try to follow.  The popularity of celebrity endorsements is unmistakable, particularly when it comes to important social causes.  Though Miley isn’t the first to go green (see: Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc), she is currently the “It” girl among nearly every teenager across the globe and therefore her stamp of approval is very powerful.

As for Miley Cyrus, the Hannah Montana phenomenon has made her an almost overnight celebrity with a huge fan base among teens or pre-teens in the country who can be counted to follow her every move.  It is therefore a great thing if these stars use their massive popularity for a great cause (instead of promoting bad example through drunk-driving, drugs, etc.).

And as Cyrus approaches driving age, she has set her sights on a hybrid vehicle, with a little push from her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus.  Hybrid cars use a combination of gas and electricity to power their motors. Because of this, they normally achieve greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions than the conventional vehicle.  Noise emissions are also reduced significantly.

“I’ve begged my dad for the Mercedes G-wagon, but he was like, ‘Miley, isn’t there enough pollution in the air?’ Cyrus tells the Ecorazzi website.  “We’re Cherokee, that’s our background. And he’s like, ‘As a Cherokee, I really don’t think you want to do this.’  And I’m like, ‘Dad, I’m not that Cherokee.’  He wants me to take care of the environment and look at hybrid cars.  I’m stoked, that’s awesome, especially with the price of gas.  I want to spray paint it. I want to rock out my car.  I want to get my car pimped out.”
