The Oscars was one big night for the Cyrus family, but the Hannah Montana star’s father was nowhere to be found.  Miley’s dad, Billy Ray, didn’t attend the ceremonies, but her mom, Tish, did.  She and her daughter walked hand in hand on the red carpet.

“She’s my mom and my date – and my dress fluffer!” Miley Cyrus told Access Hollywood.  As for her father, she joked, “Dad stepped on my train too many times at the Golden Globes,” Miley laughed.  “He’s not coming until he learns what a train is and how not to step on it!”

Miley Cyrus has had to fend off numerous attacks regarding her relationship with her father.  She admits she’s bothered by those people who think something’s not right with the bond shared by the two.

“The media has said some stuff about my dad and me being too close and too cuddly for a father and a daughter,” she wrote in her memoir titled Miles to Go.  “For me and my dad it’s not weird at all.”

On the red carpet, she continued to focus on this issue and added, “I feel like me and my dad have a better relationship than most kids in high school do with their parents and some say that’s odd, but I don’t find that odd.”

She also credits him for her work on Hannah Montana and her entire career in the entertainment industry.  Miley exclaimed, “He’s the reason I’m alive!  And he’s the one that lets me do this! It’s not just my choice – it’s my parents’ choice too.”

Tish Cyrus also commented on the matter, hoping to prevent further attacks on her family.  “It is hurtful,” she said.  “She has such a good relationship with us.”

Fans who want to find out more about Miley Cyrus and the rest of her family should wait for the release of her memoir, Miles to Go.  The 266-page book was written by Hilary Liftin, and will be published next month by Disney-Hyperion Books.
