With only three episodes left this season, the future of Gilmore Girls remains uncertain, as there’s still no definite official news on a renewal for an eighth season. There is, however, an unofficial rumour saying that they’ve been asked to do a “shortened season” and that Lauren Graham seems open to the idea of returning as Lorelai for at least this period. No news yet on whether Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory, will participate if this goes forward.

But what about the rest of the seventh season? The official description of tonight’s (May 1) episode of Gilmore Girls at The CW reads:

“With graduation looming, Rory is anxiety-ridden over her future, so Lorelai tries to cheer her up with a day of eating and shopping. Lorelai notices happily that Luke is once again wearing the baseball cap she gave him, and invites him to join her and Rory for karaoke night at a local bar. After a few drinks, Lorelai takes the stage to sing a heartfelt number which is obviously directed at Luke. Logan returns from a business trip to California and comes to see Lorelai to discuss his future with Rory.”

If you’ve seen the previews, you know Logan’s “asking permission” from Lorelai, presumably to marry Rory.

Lauren Graham was previously said to be singing ABBA’s Fernando in this week’s episode; however, this is no longer true. But don’t worry, she’s still singing! It’ll be Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You instead. The karaoke night also features tunes sung by Rory, Miss Patty (Liz Torres) and Babette (Sally Struthers).

So does this serenade mean Luke and Lorelai are getting back together? Not necessarily, as next week finds Luke overhearing Lorelai saying it didn’t mean anything, which hurts his feelings.

Next week, Rory graduates from Yale. Matt Czuchry, who plays Logan, will also appear in next week’s episode, but apparently not in the season finale. Sources say that Rory and Logan break up next week, after he proposes and she turns him down. We’ll have more details for you on this and the Gilmore Girls season (and possibly series) finale next week, so check back in!
